The Role

We're seeking an exceptional Chief Technology Officer to lead our engineering vision and drive technical innovation at the highest level. You'll be joining a unique, multi-disciplinary team of engineers, PhDs, and sports scientists to build technology that defines the future of sports nutrition. Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Strategy

• Define and execute the technology vision and roadmap aligned with business objectives.
• Lead architectural decisions and ensure scalability, security, and performance of the Hexis platform.
• Drive innovation in AI/ML applications for personalised nutrition and performance optimisation.
• Oversee the full product development lifecycle from ideation through deployment and iteration.
• Establish and champion engineering best practices, coding standards, and development processes.

Team Building & Management

• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team across frontend, backend, and data disciplines.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and innovation.
• Manage resource allocation, project prioritisation, and engineering budgets.
• Collaborate with HR on recruiting strategies to attract top engineering talent.
• Conduct performance reviews and support career development for engineering team members.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with the CEO, product leaders, sports scientists, and other executives to align technology initiatives with company strategy.
• Work closely with PhDs and sports science teams to translate research into product features.
• Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and progress to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including investors and board members.
• Represent Hexis at industry events, conferences, and in technical partnerships.

Infrastructure & Operations

• Oversee cloud infrastructure (AWS), DevOps practices, and platform reliability.
• Ensure data security, privacy compliance (GDPR), and robust disaster recovery processes.
• Manage vendor relationships and evaluate build vs. buy decisions for technology solutions.
• Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to maintain competitive advantage.

Requirements

Core Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in a senior leadership role (VP Engineering, CTO, or equivalent).
• Strong technical background with hands-on experience in modern tech stacks (TypeScript, React Native, Next.js, Node.js, AWS preferred).
• Proven track record of scaling engineering teams and delivering complex products.
• Experience with mobile and web platform development at scale.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, system design, and cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with data-driven products, AI/ML integration, or health/sports technology is highly desirable.

• Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and the ability to align technology with company goals.

Bonus Points

• Previous experience as CTO or VP Engineering at a growth-stage startup.
• Background or genuine interest in sports, fitness, nutrition, or health technology.
• Experience working with sports scientists, researchers, or in science-driven product development.
• Track record of successful product launches in consumer mobile applications.

Salary

• Approximately €120,000 per annum depending on experience, plus share options.
